Dollar-Peso Exchange Rate

USD/PHP recovered slightly today, closing 8.5 centavos higher to Php52.030. Geopolitical concerns over a possible US-Syria conflict caused risk aversion in the market. Latest FOMC statement also leaned to the hawkish side as several members postulated that the US economy would firm further and inflation data would rise in the upcoming months. Combination of these factors caused the greenback to strengthen against regional currencies including the Peso. The local pair opened at Php51.990 and immediately broke through the psychological resistance of Php52.000 to close at Php52.030.

Yields are still moving range-bound while investors continue to await more solid leads. Market analysts' reports on expectations of a rate hike from the BSP are a little mixed with some citing overheating fears as case for tightening while others see the spike in inflation as only transitory. Most trades in the market are still just on the end-user side. Volume of deals today at Php 4.2 B.
See-saw movement in yields would likely just continue for the last trading day of the week.
