Molding the Next Generation of Leaders and Influencers

Last November 12 in Cebu City, the Ramon Aboitiz Foundation Inc. - Eduardo Aboitiz Development Studies Center (RAFI-EADSC) concluded its Young Minds Academy (YMA) Season 10.

More than 120 scholars aged between 12 to 20 years old, graduated and surpassed the 8-month leadership and citizenship development training of the academy. The scholars presented their community or school-based project model addressing problems and issues in their chosen barangay or school in Metro Cebu related to the theme of Urban Development with emphasis on livability.

With the support of UnionBank, YMA aims to develop a generation of successors who have the heart to serve and the passion to make the difference. This is done through awareness raising, experiential education, immersion, open discourse, social research, project development and implementation.

“We are interested in developing leaders. The youth have great potential. We want that realized. We don’t want just potential. We want to have potential converted into action and progress,” explained RAFI President Roberto Aboitiz about the program.

The YMA is a RAFI-EADSC program under the Leadership & Citizenship focus area, which aims to bring together future leaders and influencers with the purpose of developing a pool of leaders who are ready to effect change and make a difference for the country.

Celebrating its 50th anniversary of “Touching People, Shaping the Future” this year, RAFI is a social development organization based in Cebu that has consistently worked towards elevating the lives of its stakeholders through a comprehensive approach that champions best practices in community development. Its brand promise is realized in its five focus areas of integrated development, leadership and citizenship, culture and heritage, micro-finance and entrepreneurship, and education.
