UnionBank volunteers joined the tree planting in Laguna.
Last July 16, 2016, 200 UnionBankers joined the annual Aboitiz Group-wide simultaneous tree planting at Sitio Bungahan, Brgy. Limao, Calauan, Laguna. The activity is part of the Aboitiz BetterWorld Campaign and the National Greening Program.
A total of 773 Manila-based volunteers from various Aboitiz Group companies planted 10,000 fruit-bearing tree seedlings like kalamansi, guyabano, atis tagalog, durian and pomelo in 12 hectares of land in Laguna. These plants benefit the community of Aboitiz Power Renewables Inc. MakBan Geothermal Power Plant.
“We conduct this kind of activity regularly not only to fulfill our commitment in helping with sustainable projects, but also to make a real difference in our local communities. In time, these fruit-bearing trees can be a source of food and income for the community in Sitio Bungahan,” said UnionBank SVP and HR Director Michaela Sophia E. Rubio.
Simultaneous tree planting activities were also held in 21 plantings sites nationwide such as Benguet, Tarlac, Subic, Cebu, Davao, Bukidnon, and Agusan del Norte. A total of 76,492 seedlings were planted by 2,649 volunteers. Aboitiz Group has already planted 3.8M trees as of 2015. The group aims to plant and grow 9 million trees by 2020.
Mission to plant and grow trees was a success with the help of various business units of Aboitiz Group.
