21st Leadership Learning Council

For the 21st edition and the second this year of the Leaders’ Learning Council (LLC) held last Jun 8, 2016 at the 47th Sky Lounge of UnionBank Plaza, HR Training invited Innovation Architect Dr. Paddy Miller to impart insights on how to create a culture of innovation in the workplace.

Dr. Miller’s exposition was very relevant to UnionBank leaders who attended the LLC as innovation is a major thrust of the Bank to be able to deliver meaningful experiences and Smart Banking solutions to its customers. He imparted a systematic approach on how the leaders can share and inspire innovation among themselves and their employees.

The renowned Innovation corporate speaker recommended that leaders should become “innovation architects” where they create an ecosystem in which employees and fellow leaders engage in key innovation behaviors as part of their daily work.

“You don’t have to be a Steve Jobs to create innovation. You can start small. Daily actions and solutions that are creative and imaginative that are centered in your line of work, which brings the sense of ‘innovation as usual’ to your employees can espouse a systemic and sustainable system in the workplace,” Dr. Miller said.

UnionBank Chairman and CEO Justo A. Ortiz shared Dr. Miller’s thoughts. He said that for UnionBank to rise to the challenges in digital banking, leaders should “unlock the creative potential of the organization by taking a lot of small steps,” which in turn can “bring opportunities and solutions that are focused to make things better for customers in the long run.”

Dr. Miller believed that what he calls the keystone behaviors of innovation – focus, connect, tweak, select, stealthstorm, and persist – will guide employees organize their innovative instincts on a regular basis thereby creating the best ideas that will matter most to the organization.

Dr. Paddy Miller is a Professor of Managing People in Organizations at IESE Business School in Barcelona, Spain. He has taught many leadership and general management courses on the senior executive programs at Harvard Business School, MIT and the Darden School in Virginia, USA.  Dr. Miller has been a keynote speaker at the World Innovation Forum in New York, the Creative Innovation Conference in Melbourne and the HR Directors’ Summit in Birmingham, UK. He is the co-author of the book Innovation as Usual: How to Help Your People Bring Great Ideas to Life.
