UnionBank, SSS to issue cards for electronic disbursement

The Social Security System (SSS), in partnership with UnionBank, has launched the UnionBank SSS Quick Card. It is a VISA debit card linked to a savings account where SSS Members can now have their salary loans and eventually their Sickness, Maternity and Employees Compensation (SMEC) benefits credited. Members will enjoy a quick and safe manner of receiving their benefits as they will no longer need to line up in the bank to deposit or encash their checks.
The UnionBank SSS Quick Card is a Visa debit card that is linked to a savings account. It can be used at the ATM or at Visa accredited merchants to pay for purchases made by the member. It will also be equipped for mobile and online banking and members will receive SMS alerts once their funds have been credited to the card.
“In line with SSS’ direction to go electronic, UnionBank partnered with the agency to allow SSS members to get their benefits in an easier way. No checks. No long lines. No encashments. Just get your UnionBank SSS Quick Card and withdraw or swipe,” stated Arvie de Vera, UnionBank Cash Management Product Head.
Aside from the crediting of salary loans and SMEC benefits, the SSS Quick Card will eventually be a channel for crediting of SSS pension and pension loans.
To avail of the Quick Card, an SSS member has to go to a UnionBank kiosk at selected SSS branches, fill up the required account opening documents and wait for the card to be released on the same day.
UnionBank kiosks will accommodate issuance of the SSS Quick Card or activation of SSS UMID ATM Cards. The kiosks will be located at 16 SSS branches, with pilot kiosks in SSS Diliman, Gil Puyat and Pasig Shaw. The rest of the kiosks will be available in the first quarter of 2016.
